A-Z Blogging Challenge: Letter G

I have a mixed media A-Z for you all to enjoy! For my 26 posts enjoy great movie lines, favorite children's books, fantastic music selections, and perhaps an episode of Seinfeld or I Love Lucy! A little something for everyone! I've include a "G" recipe for today's post. Enjoy!

The Goonies
(It's a favorite and I can't pick just one quote!)

Mikey: Goonies never say die!

Chunk: Look at this. They've got Mississippi Mud and they've got Chocolate Eruption and they've got what?
[Everyone screams]
Chunk: It's a stiff.
[Everyone screams and drops the dead body

Stef: You know your voice is kind of nice when your mouth isn't screwing it up.
Mouth: Yeah and you looks are kind of pretty. When your face isn't screwing it up.

Mikey: Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here.

Sloth: Hey, you guys!

(My son's favorite part.... in the end, there's a little mouse that stays awake!)

by Cher
(My mom had this one on a 45)

I Love Lucy - full episode: "The Gossip"
(Fred and Ricky are in the basement, talking through the furnace pipe)
Fred: Ethel Meeertz!
Ethel: Who's that?!
Fred: You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
Ethel: Who's that?
Fred: This is your conscience. You have been gossiping.
Lucy: Ethel, you have the loudest conscience I've ever heard.
Ricky: Lucy Ricaaardo! This is your conscience. You've been gosp-ing too!
Lucy: Oh, fine. My conscience has an accent!

I decided since it was a "G" day, I would include how to make the good old country sawmill gravy - I'm from Alabama, of course I can cook gravy like my Granny! This will make a lot of gravy... but I have a lot of kids!
Start by frying a pound of bacon.
(health nuts need not read)

Reserve bacon grease keeping in hot on medium heat.

Stir in a little flour at a time.

Keep adding and stirring in flour until you get a nice thick roux

Gradually add milk stirring constantly. Add enough milk so the roux mixes in well.

Cook on medium low heat stirring constantly . Add salt to taste.
(I know it's ready when the spoon doesn't slide down!)
(and yes, those are homemade buttermilk biscuits.)

  7. I still watch Goonies whenever it's on TV. I also have the DVD :)

I used to have Hey Micky by Toni Basil on 45. My mom had Leader of the Pack and My Boyfriend's Back on 45s. I love those songs! Great memories!

  8. Goonies is one of our family favorites. It makes me feel nostalgic whenever we watch it. I remember seeing it in the theatre. Love it!!
We had an old Sonny & Cher album, it was very groovy, I loved listening to it. Back in the day, when Cher had hair down to her knees, it was beautiful.
That recipe sounds amazing, will have to give it a try. Bacon is always yum, and so are homemade biscuits and gravy! Thanks!! :)
